The Alamo Area Aquatics Association (AAAA) is undergoing a significant transformation, with a source confirming to SwimSwam that the multi-site swim club is restructuring. Alamo Area Aquatics has seven locations across the San Antonio area, but it's now moving in a different direction compared to recent trends. While large, multi-site teams have been combining resources, AAAA is taking a different path.
The source reveals that some of the larger locations, particularly those affiliated with public school districts, will be separating to form their own independent entities. This restructuring aims to maximize the potential of each location, enhancing support for aquatic sports in the San Antonio region. Interestingly, a group of smaller locations plans to retain the AAAA brand, ensuring continuity.
One notable example is the Southwest ISD location, which has confirmed that the current short course season will be its last with AAAA. Starting in 2026, it will launch as the Southwest Aquatic Warriors (SAW). This move suggests a strategic shift towards individual identity and brand recognition.
The potential split also includes other significant locations like Northside ISD and North East ISD, which are the team's largest sites with multiple high schools within their districts. Judson ISD is also expected to be part of this split and has the capacity to operate independently.
The remaining locations, including the Jewish Community Center (JCC), San Antonio Nadadores, and the Comal site, will continue under the AAAA umbrella. Among these, the Nadadores stand out as the largest team. This restructuring comes at a time when many large clubs are merging, such as the Beach Cities Swimming and Alpha Aquatics in California, who cited inefficiencies and missed opportunities for local clubs in the South Bay Area of Los Angeles.
Additionally, the Pleasanton Seahawks and Crow Canyon Sharks merged in January 2025, while Club Kick Start joined forces with the North Carolina Aquatic Club in 2022. These examples illustrate a broader trend of smaller programs merging into larger ones to expand their reach and offerings.
